We left Daly Waters heading toward Katherine and Katherine we made, with a few interesting stops along the way. One being the tiny little town of Larrimah, featuring the Pink Panther Pub, where everything is well… pink! How’s that for a refreshment.
We stayed a night in Mataranka. This town is stunning with multiple natural hot springs all within 5ish kilometres of each other. Bitter Springs is fantastic for a float down the natural creek equipped with Water Lillys, stunning palms and a current that takes you without any hard work at all. Mataranka Thermal Pools is more of a pool with a few little sections if you’re after a chilled out afternoon with the clearest water at a perfect temperature, and both are free to visit! We parked the van at Mataranka Homestead Tourist Park for the night. There was a free whip cracking show that was just awesome, and such a lovely space right next to Elsey National Park.
We made Katherine by late afternoon and headed straight for Nutmuluk National Park where the Katherine Gorge lives. There’s a caravan park here within a 5 minute walk from the gorge where boat cruises and canoeing leave from. So many awesome walking trails around with the most stunning views!
This is what you could expect to see!
Keep following along this journey with the next post, Kathrine to Litchfield National Park! I can’t wait!
